New
Lineup Details Nothing
much has changed except for the new band member Brian Ma! Nick quit
a while ago but we didn't tell anyone because we really didn't give
a shit! Brian is hard at work playing his bass and is learning quite
fast. Look out for him in our new singles coming to you around
Christmas time. Our artificial record is also coming out by the end
of this school year. Stay Tuned. |
| Biography
of Spurm
In the October of 1998, four friends
decided to pick up their instruments and form a band. They asked
their fellow students for a name for their group, and from the long
voting list, the name was chosen, and Spurm was born. Yeah, okay,
ill cut this dramatic crap.
Spurm started out its meager beginnings
as a group of four, in Singapore.
The original band members consisted of
Hoshun Lam, Chris Chen, Gota Kume and myself, David Chiapoco. At
that time, all we had were three guitarists and one bassist, which
was Gota. It was insane, our so called songs were just basically
jamming sessions that somehow made a tune. Anything that actually
had a beat, we called a song, even if it was only around 30 seconds
long. From those sessions, we probably recorded around three hours
of recorded "music" and out of that, only 1 song was made
out of it, which was never released.
From the harsh beginnings of a jam
group, Spurm quickly looked for an illusive drummer that would fill
the ranks and finally make them a band. This would be the beginning
of the long list of drummer changes. The first drummer was Chris
Wall. He managed to stay in the band for one week, before he quit
because, well, he never explained why. After Wall quit, and the
school year ended, Hoshun moved from Singapore to Minnesota, and
Spurm lost a guitarist. From there, October 1999, Me and Chris just
made a couple of songs with Gota, from Milkman to Summer of '69.
That was the best, the most fun ever. Then came the recording of
Pain with our new drummer. The next drummer boy in the list was
Russell Yu, who actually was a success for a couple of months.
Russell was a kickass drummer, and we recorded Pain with him, which
turned out to be a total hit. Christmas break came and Gota moved
out of Singapore to Japan. Spurm lost a bassist, which was a big
blow (oh damn, that doesn't sound right). After the Christmas break
ended, and a new semester began, Spurm hit a real deep low. Songs
weren't being written, and practices not being held. It really
sucked ass. Pressure was being mounted on us, then all of a sudden,
Russell went nuts and killed Sasha. No not really, but he quit,
because he said he was holding back the bands progress. Oh well
moving on, after Russell quit, Sasha came on board as "the guy
who did shit." He was around us much before that, but now we
held him as a lyrical guy, rather than the guy who did shit. The
last drummer boy we found was, Ball Buster, or um, Brian Seery. He
was the only drummer that was really devoted to the band, which of
course, kicked ass. So that was 2000, now its um, June 2000... and
little things have changed by then.
Now, Chris Bing Chen has moved into
newer and maybe better things in Taiwan. He moved because he hated
the world and wanted some hot ass (who doesn't?). No just kidding,
but he moved because of his dad's work. Bing was with us from the
beginning, and
hopefully not the end, and he will always be remembered as a Spurm
brother. He was an intellectual fellow, one with deep thoughts and a
silent nature, but deep inside him, he was a raging pyromaniac. Bing
would say things like, "You know," "Weeasel,"
and "Our band is a bird: sometimes we fly high, sometimes low,
but we don't stop even when the weather sucks ass." Right on
brother, right on.
During these
new days, we found a new bassist, Nick Theobald and made Sasha the
singer. We went through the talent show, which was the highlight of
Spurm's career. That was the absolute best, Spurm at its finest. I
wont even mention what happened during to the Graduation Show,
because it'll just piss me off. That bitch.
And so another year of Spurm is coming,
and I do hope it is as great as the past 2 years. "Fuck it, we
always get through the shit that we go through."
- David Chiapoco
